When it comes to the subject of weight loss, the first thing that comes into our minds is dieting. However, health professionals around the world now know that it has nothing to do with dieting and everything to do with what we are eating that will help us maintain a healthy weight.
Common sense would tell us that when we eat a diet filled with processed foods we are not feeding our body with enough nutrients. Our bodies need a balance of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats (otherwise known as macro-nutrients) to function properly. When our body is not properly nourished it can cause us to gain weight and we can also be more prone to cold’s and flu’s.
The answer to weight loss is not in short term dietary programs that give out fast results. Instead the key is feeding our body with the right food, having a healthy lifestyle and engaging in regular physical exercise.
I know how appealing those products are, the ones that give you the quick results with no real effort on your part. I have done so many of those diets that I have lost count and you know what the end results were? I ended up weighing more than when I started, I was starving my body and stuffing up my metabolism because I thought that pills and shakes were the answer.
I now know that to get lasting results you need to put in the hard work and you need to feed your body with the right foods.
The good thing about losing weight the right way is that it not only gives us long-lasting results but it will also help us to stay healthy and look younger as we age. (I like the sound of that)
Here’s how to get started with eating right to look and feel right.
Choose a healthy lifestyle over a short-term diet. When it comes to staying fit and healthy there is no such thing as a quick fix. It should be done gradually and properly to get permanent results.
Establish a support group who will help inspire, remind and support you with your plans. Ask your friends or family members and let your plan be known to them so that they can guide you throughout.
I personally found using a food journal can help. I have created an amazing resource in my Lifestyle Journal, you can check it out HERE
Remember, a journey of a thousand miles begins with just ONE STEP.
Losing weight takes time but it is your determination and persistence that will make you successful.
On that important note, please don’t let high expectations sabotage your efforts. Personally, I am my own worst critic. In the past I have put such high and unrealistic expectations on myself that when I didn’t lose those 8 kilos in 4 weeks I would get discouraged and fall into my old emotional eating patterns (self-sabotage).
Realistically I knew that I would never lose that weight in a healthy way so I would restrict and then binge and create a fresh slate the next day only to have it happen all over again. I wasn’t losing any weight and I was just creating more hatred towards myself and my body. That is why I am so passionate about helping women break the emotional eating battle within themselves and start to love their bodies. Remember that you are an amazing woman who has an amazing journey to share.
And finally, create realistic and doable goals (You can learn how to set SMART goals for success HERE).
